Times of day vary: Europe changes at 1:00 AM UTC (so 2:00 AM in London becomes 1:00 AM), while the US and Canada change at 2:00 AM local time. Chile changes at midnight local time, and Australia and New Zealand at 2:00 or 3:00 AM local time.

Morocco also shifts its clocks around Ramadan: it normally stays one hour ahead of GMT and moves back to GMT for the month of Ramadan.

The “mismatch weeks” between North America and Europe

Because North America and Europe change on different dates, the time difference between them shrinks by an hour for a few weeks each year:

  • October 25 to November 1, 2026: Europe has fallen back, North America hasn’t. New York is 4 hours behind London, and Los Angeles 7 hours.
  • March 14 to March 28, 2027: North America has sprung forward, Europe hasn’t. Again, New York is 4 hours behind London.
  • October 31 to November 7, 2027: the same thing happens again.

If you have regular meetings across the Atlantic, check them during these weeks. Our time zone converter always uses the correct rules for the date you pick.

Places that no longer change their clocks

From November 2026, British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba stay on their current time all year, after making their last change on March 8, 2026. Saskatchewan, Yukon, Hawaii, most of Arizona, and most of Mexico also don’t change. Read Is daylight saving time ending? for the latest on the US and Canada, and see the full list of countries that still change their clocks.

Will my phone change automatically?

Phones, computers and smartwatches set to update the time automatically use the same time zone database we used for this list, and change by themselves. Devices that haven’t had a software update in a long time may not know about recent rule changes, such as BC’s, Alberta’s and Manitoba’s. If your device shows the wrong time after November 1, check that automatic time zone is on and install any updates. You can always check the exact time on our world clock, which also tells you how far off your device’s clock is.

How we made this list

We went through every time zone in the official IANA time zone database (version 2026e) and recorded each change in its offset from UTC between October 20, 2026 and December 31, 2027, then grouped the changes by date. Governments sometimes change their rules at short notice, especially in the Middle East, so we update this page when the database changes.
